Mediation is a method of settling disputes with the assistance of a neutral person who helps the two sides talk about the problem and work together to reach a solution acceptable to both parties.  A mediator does not impose settlements, give advice, take sides or assign blame.

How does Mediation work?

STEP ONE: Call Neighbor to Neighbor

• A trained mediator takes information and contacts all parties to explain the mediation process.
• If everyone agrees to mediate, a neutral location and convenient time is determined.

STEP TWO: Mediation

• Each party tells what brought them to the mediation.
• The mediator asks questions for clarification, helps identify issues and explores options for win/win solutions.
• Everyone's needs are respected and considered.
• All parties work together to reach a solution acceptable to everyone involved.
• If agreement is reached, it is written down.  All parties sign the document.

STEP THREE: Moving Forward

• Participants leave the session feeling validated and heard.
• Trust is rebuilt and relationships are preserved.
